Join in with the party in Munich when the annual Oktoberfest comes to town. Soak up the atmosphere and tuck into traditional local food of grilled ham hocks and roast pork, all washed down with German beer. Germany’s capital city, Berlin, has many sights, but both kids and adults will enjoy the fantastic Berlin Zoo.

When To Go

A country as diverse as Germany is a destination that can be enjoyed all year round. When it’s raining there are plenty of museums and buildings of historic interest to discover, while the stunning countryside can be explored when the weather is fine

A holiday to Germany promises to be a memorable experience, even for seasoned travellers. Germany is a country of contrasts, and that’s what makes it so interesting. The scenery begs to be photographed with mountain ranges, winding rivers and huge forests. For example The Black Forest east of the Rhine is an impressive 160km long and 50km wide. Germany also has a wonderful mix of vibrant modern cities and quaint traditional villages to discover.

Where to go

Berlin is a happening city that seemingly never sleeps and has something for everyone from museums and art galleries, to famous sights like the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag.

If you like shopping then head to Hamburg, which has plenty of boutique shops to explore and art galleries to browse. The lively and modern city of Düsseldorf makes for a great city break, particularly in winter when it plays host to a wonderful Christmas market.

Dresden, in the Saxony region of Germany, was described in the 18th century as the “Florence of the north,” and it’s not hard to see why, with its ornate palaces, churches and fine mansion houses nestled on the banks of the River Elbe.
